The Karnataka Roller Skating Association will host the ‘50th golden jubilee national roller hockey and free-style skating championship’ for boys and girls at the Shivganga Skating Club’s international skating arena here from February 2 to 6.

The event will be conducted by the Roller Skating Federation of India (RSFI). A freestyle event will be held on Friday as part of the inaugural ceremony.

President of RSFI Pradeep Ganeriwal said 700 skaters and 50 officials representing 14 States and Union Territories would participate. Winners of this event would get a chance to take part in the forthcoming International Championship-2013.

The Belgaum event was the last phase of the 50th national championship event, he said.

The roller hockey championship was being conducted for three age groups — sub-junior (8-12), junior (12 -16) and senior (above 16) on league-cum-knockout basis. The event would witness a game between the defending champions Haryana and runners-up Chandigarh and Punjab.

Around 50 national and international skaters are expected to participate in this event, he added.
