`Patchwork on all roads in the city will be completed by January 4'

Udupi: The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), in its general body meeting on Saturday, decided to repair roads in the Old Udupi town limits by January 4 to prepare for `paryaya' festival that falls on January 18. Councillor Renold Praveen Kumar said that a proposal was floated in 2001 to widen Kanakadasa Road, one of the main approaches to Sri Krishna Temple. And the CMC gave its nod for land acquisition. But after that, the matter was put in cold storage. An integrated plan for widening to facilitate better access to the temple should be formulated, he said.

Councillor Vasanti Shetty said that a CMC delegation met Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh to seek funds for road repair. But Mr. Kumar said it was not a delegation from the CMC, but that of the BJP that met the Chief Minister. Councillor Chittaranjandas Hegde said patchwork on all roads in the city will be completed by January 4.
