Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation holds condolence meeting
HUBLI: The Mayor of Hubli Dharwad, Viranna Savadi announced on Wednesday that steps would be taken to name a road or a residential locality in the twin cities after Kannada matinee idol Vishnuvardhan who died earlier in the day.
Speaking at a special condolence meeting convened at the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) council hall here, the Mayor recalled the contribution of Mr. Vishnuvardhan to Kannada cinema and his simplicity, before announcing the decision.
The meeting was convened to mourn the deaths of Mr. Vishnuvardhan, singer C. Ashwath and BJP MLC S. Kailash.
Moving the condolence motion, floor leader of the council Bharati Patil recalled the contribution of the all the three personalities in their respective fields.
Leader of the Opposition in the council Deepak Chinchore (Congress), Janata Dal (Secular) leaders Rajanna Koravi and Altaf Kittur, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors Pandurang Patil and Shivanand Muttannavar, and Congress councillor Vijayalaxmi Loothimath spoke about the three persons.
Various organisations held condolence meetings in Hubli and Dharwad on Wednesday to mourn the deaths of Mr. Vishnuvardhan and Mr. Ashwath.
Hangal Music Foundation organised a condolence meeting at Rani Chennamma Circle in which founder president of the foundation Manoj Hangal and others paid floral tribute to the actor and the singer.
Photographs taken during Mr. Vishnuvardhan’s last visit to vocalist Gangubai Hangal’s house in Hubli were displayed at the circle for some time.
At Durgada Bail, BJP activists, led by councillor Shivanand Muttannavar, held a condolence meeting. Speakers on the occasion recalled the contribution of the three personalities to their respective fields.
Members of Karnataka Rakhana Vedike held condolence meetings at various junctions in the twin cities while Karnataka Navanirmana Vedike took out a silent procession in Dharwad to pay tributes to Mr. Vishnuvardhan and Mr. Ashwath.
Pramod Mutalik and other members of Rashtriya Hindu Sena also held a meeting to mourn the death of the artistes.
