The residents of Thyagarajanagar and Shastrinagar in Yediyur ward now have a connecting road. The newly laid Sir M. Visvesvaraya Road not only connects these two localities, it also serves as an important link between Banashankari 2nd Stage and Basavanagudi.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which had taken up the work in February 2011, has completed the road development ahead of schedule. Scheduled to be completed by end of February 2012, the road has been developed at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore.

According to Yediyur councillor N.R. Ramesh, the 1-km road has been developed over a storm-water drain using advanced engineering technology. “The storm-water drain was earlier just 12 ft wide, while the road was 14 ft. The drain was widened to 24 ft and the road widened to cover it. The total width of the road is now 42 ft,” he said.

The local residents wanted the road to be named after engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya. “Based on their demand, I sought permission from the BBMP to name the road after him,” he said.

Mr. Ramesh said that the road would be formally opened for traffic on Friday by Home Minister R. Ashok, Mayor Sharadamma and BBMP Commissioner M.K. Shankarlinge Gowda.
