Members of the Raitha Krishikarmikara Sanghatane (RKS) have urged the State government to regularise the unauthorised cultivation of bagair hukum land and provide the much needed livelihood to the landless agricultural labourers.
District convener of the RKS S. Sandeep, who led a protest by farmers and landless labourers from different villages in Gulabrga district outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Monday, urged the government to stop the acquisition of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes. The landless agricultural labourers were tilling in the C and D class government land for more than four decades and their application for regularisation of land had gone unheeded so far. The landless agriculturists cultivating the bagair hokum land were not in a position to raise loans from cooperative banks for agricultural activities or mechanisation. The government should immediately take measures to constitute land allotment committees in all taluks.
