Mysore: Rice and toor dal will now be available at Rs. 16 and Rs. 65 a kg respectively at the outlets of the Mysore District Cooperative Wholesale Trade Committee at Sahakara Bhavan and Janata Bazaar here.
The former Mayor Vasu inaugurated the sale of rice and toor dal here on Monday. The former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy was scheduled to inaugurate the sale of rice and toor dal but he could not make it to the function.
Janata Bazaar Mysore president S. Chandrashekar told The Hindu that the people can buy any quantity of rice and toor dal from the outlet. However, a minimum of 25 kg of rice or toor dal has to be purchased and the committee has not arranged for retail sale.
“We have procured super fine rice and toor dal directly from farmers and we are selling it at subsidised prices for the benefit of the people here,” Mr. Chandrashekar added.
Within an hour of the launch of the facility, 400 bags each weighing 25 kg of rice were sold. “This indicates the demand. We are ready to meet the demand and supply,” he said.
In near future, sugar may also be sold at fair price once the prices are stabilised, he added.
