Bangalore: The Department of Higher Education should pay tribute to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the acclaimed scholar of philosophy whose birthday is celebrated as Teachers’ Day, by reviving Bangalore University’s defunct Philosophy Department, Congress leader R. Roshan Baig has said.

Speaking at the Teachers’ Day celebrations organised by the Department of Collegiate Education here on Saturday, he said he would appeal to Governor H.R. Bhardwaj, who is the Chancellor of the university, in this regard.

“I had come prepared to make an appeal to Higher Education Minister Arvind Limbavali, but he has not turned up here today,” said Mr. Baig.

Giving a piece of advice to teachers as well, he said they should enthuse students by not abandoning scholarly pursuits once they become teachers.

Educationist K. Narahari, MLC, said education was not only about imparting information but also values.
