Houses should be constructed only after getting prior permission from the authorities, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Managing Director K.G. Jagadish said here on Tuesday. Speaking at a meeting to discuss the progress of various housing schemes in the district, he said the beneficiaries of the housing schemes can now view the progress of their applications online and get necessary clarification from the authorities. “The beneficiaries can also get to know about the eligibility criteria for getting houses under different houses schemes,” he added.

Since there is a provision for construction of group housing for the people with disabilities and widows, the authorities should look for suitable land for the same and submit a detailed report at the earliest. The corporation is ready to pay three times more than the market value of the land if the people voluntarily come forward for construction of houses, he said.

Expressing concern over the delay in construction under different housing schemes, he said there are a lot of complaints about the quality of materials used. “The officers should give clear details about the materials used for construction and only then the bills would be cleared and houses would be handed over to beneficiaries,” he said.

The details of beneficiaries selected under Basava, Indira Awas Yojana and rural housing programmes should be included in the official website “The mobile number of the beneficiaries should also be included in the website so that the status of their applications can be known to them through messages sent by the site,” he added.

The government has sanctioned 20 houses to every gram panchayat in the State, so the authorities should select the beneficiaries with utmost care and ensure that the actual beneficiaries are not neglected in the selection process.
