Campaigns in several villages highlighting his achievements
HASSAN: Bhavani, daughter-in-law of the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, is on a whirlwind campaign of the villages in Hassan taluk, on behalf of her husband and former Minister H.D. Revanna. Mr. Revanna is contesting from the Holenarsipur constituency in the district.
Following the delimitation exercise, Shantigrama and Dudda Hobli of Hassan taluk, and Dandiganahalli Hobli of Chennarayapatna taluk, were merged with the Holenarsipur Assembly constituency.
There are 11 contestants for the Assembly segment. The Congress has fielded Anupama, the daughter-in-law of late G. Puttaswamy, an arch political rival of Mr. Deve Gowda.
Ms. Bhavani, who started her campaign from Moslehosalli, which borders Shantigrama, visited people in all the villages. In A. Gudaganahalli, she was received by the residents with a traditional “arti.”
She, however, did not forget to list the achievements of her husband, whom she said was keen on transforming the district into a progressive one.
“The State was put on the path of progress when my brother-in-law H.D. Kumaraswamy was Chief Minister. He had ensured that old age pension, widow pension, and allowances for the physically challenged were increased,” she said.
She appealed to the people to vote for her husband and claimed that he would do still better in the future.
Speaking to The Hindu, she said she was not campaigning because her husband was facing tough competition from Ms. Anupama.
The district will go to polls on May 10.
