Touted as the first such initiative in the district, former police officers from the district will band together as the ‘Retired Police Officers Association’, that is scheduled to be inaugurated on May 9.

Addressing presspersons on Monday, B.J. Bhandary, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police said the main objective for forming the association was to unite retired policemen, identify and try and a solution to the problems through various government schemes or through a united protest. “A few similar associations have been setup in other districts and we’re looking to bring them under a union,” he said.

All retired police personnel (except those from IPS cadre) can apply for membership, he said.

The organisation will be inaugurated at Sri Muneeshwara Mahaganapathi Temple Auditorium ‘Kalabhavana’, located near Nehru Maidan, Mangalore.

R. Hithendra, police commissioner of Mangalore city and in-charge Inspector General of Police (Western Range), will inaugurate the programme, while A.B Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner, S.D. Sharanappa, SP, among others will be present. The programme will also feature office bearers of policemen’ associations from districts.
