The Legislative Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution urging the State Election Commission to postpone the elections to urban local bodies to facilitate those who have become eligible voters in the 2011 Census, and for reserving 50 per cent of the seats in wards for women belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes and general category, and to upgrade ULBs, due to increase in population.

Independent member Goolihatti Shekhar moved the resolution and it was seconded by Venkatagouda Nadagouda of the Janata Dal (Secular). Replying to the demand, Minister for Municipal Administration Balachandra Jarkiholi said affidavits had been filed by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, before the Supreme Court on the issue, but that he went on changing the date on which he would submit the Census.

He said the House wanted the elections to be held as per the 2011 Census. Mr. Jarkiholi said the review petition against the dismissal of the SLP was pending before the apex court.
