Residents stage protest over delay in road repair

Taking exception to the delay in repairing the road dug up for underground drainage work, residents staged a demonstration outside the Municipal Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday.

Residents of Pendar Galli, Netaji Cross, New Myadar Oni and Kalammana Agasi covered their faces with handkerchiefs and held a demonstration outside the Municipal Commissioner’s office, to highlight the dust pollution faced by the residents. The residents complained that although the work was completed six months ago, the damaged roads had not been repaired to date.

In the last two months, district in-charge Minister Santosh Lad, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Sameer Shukla and MLA Prasad Abbayya had visited the locality and directed officials to take remedial measures. However, nothing had been done, they complained.

They urged the Commissioner to visit the locality to understand the problems being faced by the residents. They also urged him to take up repair work soon. “We will be forced to take to the streets if no action is taken within a week,” they warned.
