They had encroached upon government land
District administration to clear such structures from Saturday
Extension counter of Raichur division of Gescom is among such structures
Raichur: Residents of Bhangikunta and Loharwadi localities in Raichur city, who had constructed structures by encroaching upon government land, have decided to cooperate with the district administration in clearing the encroachments.
A team of officials from the Revenue Department and the Raichur City Municipal Council, who identified and marked such structures in Bhangikunta and Loharwadi localities on Wednesday, has asked the residents to clear them in two days.
The district administration has decided clear such structures from Saturday.
Responding to the district administration's order, some of the residents, on Thursday, started clearing temporary structures that had encroached up on government land.
However, those who had constructed permanent structures encroaching upon drains have decided to cooperate with the district administration in clearing the encroachments.
An extension counter of the Raichur division of the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (Gescom) which was constructed by encroaching upon a drain is also being cleared.
However, none of the residents of Goshala Road have come forward to clear illegal structures in spite of the authorities warning them that encroachments will be cleared from Saturday. In the last few years many sheds have come up on a one-acre land meant for a public garden in the locality.
Raichur MP S. Pakkirappa has welcomed the district administration's initiative to clear illegal structures in the city. Such a drive will help in improving basic facilities in the city, he has said.
Syed Yasin, MLA, who also welcomed the initiative, has said that illegal structures should be cleared in the interests of the development of the city.
