Need to revamp research methods at universities emphasised

SHIMOGA: Former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University P. Venkataramaih said on Wednesday that research should be pro-society and should tread new paths.

Inaugurating the three-day workshop on "Methods of Research" organised jointly by the Kuvempu University SC/ST Development Unit and the B.R. Ambedkar Study Centre at Jnana Sahyadri, the varsity campus, he asked researchers to work on new subjects with an open mind.


He said construction of new buildings alone would not ensure the growth of a university. K.V. Narayan of the Kannada University at Hampi said it was not enough if the research was intellectual. "It should be socially relevant too," he added.Emphasising the need for revamping research methods being taken up in the universities he said that they should be modified taking into consideration the criticism on the relation between the guides and research students.

Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University B.S. Sherigar presided over the function. Convenor of the Ambedkar Study Centre, at the university, Rangaraj Vanadurga welcomed the gathering. Registrar Shivanna was the chief guest.
