HAVERI: Barring an incident of stone-throwing and confusion over change of election symbol leading to the announcement of repolling in one constituency, polling for the gram panchayat elections in Haveri district concluded peacefully on Wednesday.

Confusion arose at polling stations in ward number 5 of Huralikoppi village in Savanur taluk after it was found that the election symbol of one of the candidates had been wrongly mentioned.

After polling started in three booths pertaining to Huralikoppi Grama Panchayat it was found that the election symbol of Ganapathrao Kulkarni was not the same that was allotted to him. Meanwhile, another mix-up in the symbol came to light.

Instead of the symbol of a Lock and Key, the symbol of Road Roller had been mentioned in front of Hazaresab Mulla's name. However, he had no objection as he had communicated the change in his symbol to the voters. The other candidates insisted that polling should be resumed.

Finally, the issue ended with re-polling being announced for May 15.
