Lakshman Dasti, founder president of the Hyderabad Karnataka Janapara Sangarsha Samiti, has urged the government to reinstate the 417 engineers, who played an important role in completing the Upper Krishna Project (UKP).

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Dasti said that when these engineers were appointed in 1990, the irrigated area in Krishna basin was just 1 lakh hectares.

Now, it had expanded to 6.2 lakh hectares. Keeping in mind the present requirement of engineers, the government should retain them in service, he said and warned that if the demand was not met immediately, the protest would be intensified. — Staff Correspondent
