MYSORE: Over 850 workers belonging to Reid & Taylor, a unit of S. Kumars Nationwide Limited, at Thandya Industrial Area in Nanjangud taluk, struck work from June 9 demanding wage revision. Workers pitched tents in front of the factory and are staging a dharna for the next 13 days.

According to Puttaswamy, General Secretary, Reid & Taylor Workers’ Union, affiliated to Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the workers were being paid Rs. 1,000 a month when the unit started production, and are now getting a maximum of Rs. 4,500. It has now become difficult for the workers to make ends meet, he said. While workers were demanding a maximum of Rs. 6,500, the company wanted to buy industrial peace by offering Rs. 1,550, spread over the next three years.
