MANGALORE: Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the State Government to reduce the sales tax and entry tax on petroleum products. In a letter to the Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, the chamber’s president K.N. Prabhu has said that the recent hike in fuel prices by the Union Government had burdened the people and the industries were adversely hit. The taxes on fuel charged by the State were higher than those of neighbouring States. The sales tax on fuel should be reduced to below 15 per cent which would bring the petrol and diesel prices down by rupee one to Rs. two a litre, he said and urged the Government to act immediately.
