The former MP is the BJP candidate in the RS poll
SHIMOGA: The former MP and Bharatiya Janata Party's spokesperson for the State unit, Ayanur Manjunath, assured here on Saturday that he would ably shoulder the responsibility given to him through the party's ideological framework. It is after a decade, he said, that he has got an opportunity to re-enter the Parliament and lauded Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and State BJP president K.S. Eshwarappa for making it happen. For the first time, the district would get two MPs, he added.
Mr. Manjunath said poverty and issues of the labour sector were his priorities and assured to take these up in the Parliament.
R.K. Siddaramanna, district BJP president and MLC, congratulated Mr. Manjunath.
Chairman of Malnad Area Development Board Padmanabh Bhat, Zilla Panchayat president H.C. Basavarajappa, leaders K.S. Ananthramaiah, Mahendranath, S. Jnaneshwar and Narataj were present.
“I am both happy and anxious over the confidence the party has in me because I had never lobbied for this seat and I was surprised at getting the offer from the high command,” Mr. Manjunath said.
