Rayaraddi forgoes salary

Senior Congress member Basavaraj Rayaraddi on Friday announced that he would forgo his salary during the five-year term of the Congress government in the State.

He made the announcement in the Legislative Assembly. As a member of the House, Mr. Rayaraddi receives Rs. 25,000 a month from the State exchequer.

Mr. Rayaraddi has written to Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa on this.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Rayaraddi said: “I am social worker. I am not a public sector employee to get monthly salary from the government,” However, he said he would receive other allowances.

Mr. Rayaraddi said he had forgone salary and allowances while he was Special Representative of the State government in Delhi during 1997-99.
