Rangappa takes charge as Mysore varsity VC

K.S. Rangappa assumed charged as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore here on Friday.

Acting Vice-Chancellor B. Shivaraj handed over charge to Prof. Rangappa, who was hitherto Vice-Chancellor of the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) here. He is the 24th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore.

Supporters of Prof. Rangappa celebrated the moment by bursting crackers in front of Crawford Hall. Prof. Rangappa, whose term had ended in December, 2012, was on an extension as the Vice Chancellor of the KSOU.

Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Rangappa said he was elated to take charge as Vice-Chancellor of the university where he had studied. He had done his MSc in Chemistry and secured Ph.D. from Mysore University.

He would live up to the expectations of all and work for the progress of the University, he told presspersons. The Governor had asked him on Friday to find out whether he was ready for the new assignment to which he had agreed. The State government too had endorsed his appointment, Prof. Rangappa said.

Son of Subbe Gowda and the late Kempamma, Prof. Rangappa hails from Kanchugaranahalli in K.R. Nagar taluk of Mysore district. Registrar (Evaluation) B. Ramu, Registrar of KSOU B.S. Vishwanath and Dean (Study Centre) T.D. Deve Gowda, were present.
