Kanchana Sanjeeva Rai, Bhoja Suvarna are the other winners

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy has selected linguist Ramakrishna T. Shetty (Head of the Department of Linguistics at Annamalai University), Yakshagana exponent Kanchana Sanjeeva Rai and film actor and director Bhoja Suvarna for its annual honorary awards for 2009.

It has selected an anthology of Tulu poems, “Kannega”, by Muddu Moodubelle, Tulu novel, “Desantaro”, authored by Lalita Rai, and “Maukhika Sankatha,” a collection of essays on Tulu studies by Poovappa Kaniyuru, for its annual book awards.

The honorary awards and book awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000, respectively. All the awards carry a citation, a memento and a shawl.

Announcing the awards, academy chairman Paltadi Ramakrishna Achar told presspersons here on Tuesday that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would present the awards to the winners on May 29 in Bangalore.

Ministers V.S. Acharya, Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri and Krishna J. Palemar would participate in the event.
