A large number of people participated in a rally of vehicles from Gundia to Belthangady on Sunday demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the murder of a 17-year-old college girl in Ujire a year ago. The rally started from Gundiya at 4 p.m. and was led by the vehicle carrying the girl’s parents and activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi. The rally passed via Dharmastala where the rallyists shouted slogans against Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala D. Veerendra Heggade. This led to heated exchanges between the participants of the rally and some people who had come to Dharmasthala. The police intervened and urged the participants to proceed towards Belthangady, where a public meeting was held.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s District Unit has upported the demand for CBI investigation of the girl’s rape and murder case.
