A caparisoned elephant will lead the procession of tableaux
Madikeri: Kannada Rajyotsava will be celebrated on a grand scale in Kodagu district, particularly here, in the wake of the Suvarna Karnataka year as per a decision taken by the District Administration and the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat.
This was decided at a meeting presided over by Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, Tulasi, in the presence of zilla panchayat president H.S. Ashok, according to an official release here on Friday.
A caparisoned elephant would carry the portrait of goddess Bhuvaneshwari, and women would carry "poornakumbha" alongside. Different tableaux would be taken out on the occasion depicting the cultural glory of the State and the district. Kodagu Kannada Sahitya Parishat president T.P. Ramesh suggested to the zilla panchayat authorities to instruct traders in the district to fly Kannada flags on November 1. Those present in the meeting pointed out that all gram panchayats in the district must be told to observe Rajyotsava by flying Kannada flags. Programmes involving students must be organsied to commemorate the event. Regional Transport Officer was asked to appeal to the private transport bus owners and autorickshaw associations to take steps to fly Kannada flag atop vehicles on November 1.
