Raichur: Forty-four nomination papers were filed by 28 persons in all the seven Assembly segments in Raichur district on Monday.
Six nominations were filed from the Raichur Rural Assembly constituency, nine nominations from Raichur (City) constituency, three nominations from Manvi constituency, two nominations from Deodurga constituency, six nominations from Lingsugur constituency, 10 nominations from Sindhanur and eight nominations from Maski constituency. In the Raichur Rural segment, the former MP Raja Rangappa Naik of the Janata Dal (Secular) and Raja Rayappa Naik of Congress filed two sets of nominations each.
K.B. Shanthappa also filed two sets of nominations as the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate.
In the Raichur (City) segment, the former MLA Syed Yasin of the Congress, the former Minister Muniyappa Muddappa of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and M. Eranna of the Janata Dal (S), who is also the former president of the Raichur City Municipal Council, filed two sets of nominations each. E. Anjaneya filed his papers as the BSP candidate.
Two independents, Jameel Ahmed and B.R. Aparna, also filed papers.
In Manvi segment, G. Hamapaiah of the Congress filed two sets of nominations, while the former MLA Gangadhara Naik of the BJP filed one set.
In Deodurga segment, Sujata Patil of the BJP and B.V. Naik of the Congress filed one set of papers each.
In Lingsugur, A.Vasanthkumar, president of the district unit of the Congress, Manappa Vajjal of the BJP, Balappa of the Janata Dal (United), T.L. Naik of the Janata Dal (S) and two independents, Hanumanthappa and Gopal, filed one set of papers each. In Sindhanur segment, the former MLAs Badarli Hampangouda of the Congress, Venkat Rao Nadagouda of the Janata Dal (S) and R. Narayanappa of the BJP filed two sets of nominations each.
In Maski segment, Ayyangouda of the Janata Dal (S), Pratapgouda of the BJP, Nagaraj of the BSP and Hanumangouda, an independent, filed one nomination each. Shivappa of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Kareppa Kandgal, an independent, filed two nominations each.
