INDIGNANT: Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha staging rasta-roko in Raichur on Saturday.

Members of the district unit of the Karnataka Raitha Sangha staged a rasta roko against the lathi-charge by the police on farmers in Koppal. They demanded action against the Koppal Superintendent Police.

Activists, led by S. Rajashekar, president of the taluk unit of the sangha, assembled at Basaveshwara Circle here on Saturday and staged the protest, which affected traffic for about an hour. They shouted slogans against the BJP Government, accusing it of suppressing farmers' movement.

Later, they went in a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's office.

Memorandum

Submitting a memorandum to the district administration, Mr. Rajashekar accused the Government of trying to divert the attention of the people by encouraging the police to commit atrocities on farmers to cover up it corrupt practices.

Such a dictatorial attitude of the Government could not suppress the movement of the farmers, he added.

Demanding the Government to withdraw cases registered against farmers and release them unconditionally, he said the Government should take stern action against the police officials who were responsible for the lathi-charge on farmers. In Koppal town, the district unit of the KRRS staged a rasta roko at the Ashoka Circle.
