The death toll due to heavy rain in the district on Tuesday night rose to four, when one more body washed away in the flash floods at Khanagadda village in Sedam Taluk in Gulbarga district was recovered on Wednesday.

The victim, Venkat (35), was washed away in the flash floods when he attempted to cross the flooded stream at Khanagadda village on Tuesday night.

Deputy Commissioner V. Prasad said here on Wednesday that the flood situation was under control and the water had receded in all the streams and nalas in Sedam, Chittapur and Chincholi taluks which experienced heavy rain on Tuesday night. The flood waters which had entered houses in Sedam town had also receded.

Compensation

Dr. Prasad said a compensation of Rs. 1.5 lakh would be paid to family members of the four persons who had died in the flash floods and lightning. Three persons were washed away in the flash floods, and one died due to lightning.

Reports reaching the district headquarters said around 30 houses were partially damaged due to heavy rain and flash floods in parts of the district. Dr. Prasad said the district administration was yet to get any confirmed news about damages to houses. Taluk-level revenue officials have been asked to conduct a survey and submit a report.

The district administration has ordered a survey of the damage to standing crops due to the flood waters entering agricultural fields, and damage to the harvested black gram and green gram crops in the district.
