Memorandum submitted to Divisional Railway Manager

Interim relief of Rs. 1,000 sought for employees

They want residential staff quarters repaired

MANGALORE: Members of the Joint Railway Trade Unions Committee took out a protest march at the main railway station here on Thursday urging the authorities to fulfil various demands.

T. Suresh, convener of the committee submitted a memorandum of demands to the Divisional Railway Manager, Palghat, Southern Railway. In the memorandum, the committee members sought the railway authorities to pay an interim relief of Rs. 1,000 to each of its employees. It was also demanded in the memorandum that group D staff be promoted to group C, skilled grade.

Staff quarters

The employees’ quarters at the railway colony in the city were dilapidated. Walls of the buildings had developed cracks, roofs were leaking during rainy season and back doors of several houses were missing, Mr. Suresh said.

The committee urged the Railways to repair the buildings at the earliest.

Although the Railways had constructed five blocks of residential houses at Kankanady, they had not been allotted to employees.

The allotment was pending because wiring in the buildings had not been completed, he said.

Members of the Dakshin Railway Employees, Union, All India Station Masters Association, Indian Railway Ticket Checking Staff Organisation and affiliated unions participated in the protest.
