President of the district Congress unit Vasant Kumar announced that Union Minister for Railways M. Mallikarjun Kharge will dedicate the new Raichur–Gadwal railway line to the nation on Saturday. Addressing a press conference at the Raichur Reporters’ Guild here on Wednesday, Mr. Kumar said: “The 58-km stretch of the new broad-gauge railway line between Raichur in Karnataka and Gadwal in Andhra Pradesh will be dedicated on Saturday. The completion of the new lane, considered one of the major factors that could boost economic progress in the region, was indefinitely postponed for several years. I thank Mr. Kharge who took the project forward,” he said.
Mr. Kumar said the district Congress committee would felicitate Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Kharge, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Mr. Kumar denied allegations that he was interfering in government officials’ duties and that he was involved in transfer of officers. “These allegations are baseless. I never interfered in the work of government officers. Elected representatives recommend transfer of officers. However, I don’t have any role to play in the matter,” he said.
