The Municipal Administration and Wakf Minister Qamar-ul Islam has said that 60 per cent of the survey of wakf properties in the State has been completed and directions have been issued to quicken the survey in all districts.

Briefing presspersons about the review meeting on the progress of survey work here on Wednesday, Mr. Islam said districts like Gulbarga and Yadgir have completed 80 to 90 per cent of the survey work. He said as per the directions of the Union government, the survey had to be completed before September 2014 and notified in the gazette. He added Karnataka was ahead of other States in completing the survey work and that the Wakf Board has decided to issue gazette notification of wakf properties of districts which had completed 50 per cent of the survey work. The Board had set itself a target to complete the survey work by March 2014 and publish the gazette notification.

On the encroachments and illegal occupation of wakf properties, Mr. Islam said the Chief Executive Officer of the Wakf Board was empowered to dispose of applications of those who had encroached upon the wakf properties. He said others who had not approached the board claiming ownership of property would be issued notice by the district authorities and made to vacate.

Regional Commissioner (incharge) and Bellary Deputy Commissioner Amlan Biswas said out of 836 wakf properties in Bellary district, survey work had been completed in 446 properties. Similarly in Bidar district out of the total 2,603 wakf properties survey work has been completed in 1,032 properties and in Gulbarga district out of the total 3,790 properties survey had been completed in 3,435 properties

Mr. Islam said due to the shortage of surveyors, the government was availing the services of licenced surveyors to take up the work. The board has also decided to accede to the request for hiring one vehicle in each district to undertake the survey.
