Members of the Women’s Wing of the Congress on Monday took out a procession here, in protest against the gang-rape of a paramedical student in Delhi, who eventually died in Singapore on Saturday last. They also lit candles at the Mahatma Gandhi Circle to mourn her death.
Pushpa Lakhmanaswamy, president of the district wing, who led the procession, demanded that capital punishment be awarded to all the culprits.
She urged the government to bring in amendments to the relevant law to ensure stringent punishment to such crimes so that similar incidents did not recur anywhere in the country. Citing the recent incidents of rape in Hassan and elsewhere, she expressed shock over the incidence of crime against women and sought quick action against perpetrators.
Members of the Brahmakumari Samaj also took part in the agitation.
