G. Somashekar Reddy, MLA, set in motion the Pulse Polio programme by administering polio drops to a child at the Goshan Hospital here on Sunday.

He called upon the people to cooperate with the authorities concerned by getting their children below the age of five administered with polio drops.

During the first round of the Pulse Polio programme from January 20 to 24, the polio drops would be administered to 3.64 lakh children below the age of five, across the district. As many as 1,487 booths set up to administer the polio drops would be manned by 1,403 personnel, he said.

In addition, mobile units and make-shift booths would be in operation at railway station and bus-stands to cover the children passing through the district.

During the three-day mop-up programme, health workers would undertake door-to-door campaign to ensure that polio drops are administered to every child in the district.

C. Ibrahim, Mayor; Gangadhar Goud, Director of Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS); Srikant Basur, District Health Officer; and Pompapati, District Surgeon, were present.
