Pulse Polio drive launched in Gulbarga

M.R. Vijayakumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat, launched a four-day intensive Pulse Polio drive in the district by administering the polio drops to a girl child in Basava Nagar.

On the inaugural day, polio drops were administered to children below the age of five in designated booths established throughout the district. Through the next three days, a team of health workers would take up an intensive pulse polio drive by visiting individual houses and administering the drops to all the children who were left out.

In Gulbarga district, the authorities have set a target to administer the drops to more than 3.86 lakh children. Out of the total, nearly 1.59 lakh children were in urban areas and 2.27 lakh children rural areas. The authorities established 1,424 centres to administer the drops on Sunday. Apart from this, 131 transit teams and 33 mobile teams have been established.

A total of 3,176 officials would form teams to visit the houses throughout the district for three days from Monday, and 308 supervisors have been appointed to monitor the progress in the implementation of the programme.

In Yadgir district, the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme was launched on Sunday. A total of 1.80 lakh children would be administered polio drops during the four-day programme.
