The Hassan district unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded that a compensation of Rs. 30 lakh be given to the family of a youth who was killed, allegedly by Anti-Naxal Force personnel, at Tanikodu check-post, near Sringeri.

M.C. Dhongre, district president, CPI, on Wednesday said the government had done the appropriate thing by registering a murder case against the ANF constable. “BJP leaders’ remarks criticising the government’s act is uncalled for. When the personnel have admitted to wrongdoing, whoever did the mistake should be punished. There is nothing wrong in booking a case against the ANF constable,” he said.

He added that the compensation of Rs. 10 lakh that was announced was insufficient.

He demanded that the government increase it to Rs. 30 lakh.
