District in-charge Minister R.V. Deshpande has instructed officials to sanction compensation to people affected by heavy rain within 24 hours. Mr. Deshpande addressed mediapersons after meeting officials at the circuit house here on Thursday. He was on his first visit to Sirsi after being sworn in as Minister. The losses in Sirsi taluk owing to heavy rain was Rs.1.2 crore. Compensation had been given to most of the affected people, he said.

Mr. Deshpande said the government would give Rs. 70,000 to people whose houses had been damaged and Rs.1.5 lakh for loss of life.

Taluk panchayat president Gurupad Hegde, vice-president Santosh Gouda, zilla panchayat members Usha Hegde and Shobha Naik, Assistant Commissioner Raju K. Mogaveer, tahsildar Subramanya and officials of various department were present.
