Bangalore: Members of “Janasthra”, Alternative Media for Change, criticised the State Government for celebrating the 500th year of the coronation of Sri Krishnadevaraya in a grand manner in Hampi.

The members held a demonstration in front of the Town Hall on Sunday and shouted slogans against the State Government for “unnecessarily” spending Rs. 19 crore for the celebrations.

Thousands of families lost their houses in recent floods, which hit 15 districts in north Karnataka.

Instead of taking constructive measures to rebuild their roofs, the Government has spent several crores of rupees on celebrating the anniversary of the coronation of emperor, Janasthra convenor Adithya said.

Political parties and non-governmental organisations, who collected funds from the public to “build” houses in the flood affected districts, should give details about the construction, he added.
