Activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal went on a fast here against alleged slaughter of cows in the city.
The activists said that many cows were being transported from different places and slaughtered in illegal slaughter houses in the city.
The cows were being illegally transported to slaughter houses in Kerala as well, they said.
The district administration, police, and corporation officials were not taking action against persons involved in these acts, they added.
VHP Pranta Upadyaksha M.B. Puranik expressed anguish over alleged slaughter and illegal transportation of cows. Cows were being stolen from cowsheds and grazing places and moved to slaughter houses.
He referred to the death of 28 cows in Kottara Chowki while being transported to a slaughter house a few days ago. He said that 93 cows died because they were given poison in Byndoor recently.
The activists submitted a memorandum to Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Harish Kumar K., Deputy Commissioner N.S. Channappa Gowda, and Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh.
