It was submitted by Bidar district administration to South Central Railway six months ago
Closure of a few manned level-crossings for vehicular traffic has been proposed
Technical objections raised by railway authorities sorted out: Deputy Commissioner
BIDAR: Authorities of South Central Railway are yet to clear a proposal submitted by the Bidar district administration on construction of underpasses at various places in Bidar city to facilitate smooth movement of vehicles.
The proposal was submitted nearly six months ago.
A railway line bifurcates Bidar city and movement of trains regularly affects vehicular traffic.
Officials in the district administration told The Hindu here on Wednesday that the proposal included closing of a few manned level-crossings in for vehicular traffic and construction of underpasses to ensure free movement of vehicles. It also proposed widening of the underpass between Basaveshwara Chowk and Bhoomgoondeshwara Chowk. An underpass has been proposed near the police quarters on the Hyderabad road. The officials said that if this underpass was constructed, alignment of the Hyderabad road had to be changed. This would ensure obstruction-free movement of vehicles into and out of the city.
They said that an underpass had been proposed at the level-crossing between Mahaveer Chowk and Bhoomgoondeshwara Chowk. A large number of people use this road as it leads to Gandhi Ganj, the main market in the city. If not an underpass, the officials said that a flyover could be constructed between Mahaveer Chowk and Bhoomgoondeshwara Chowk.
The officials said that an underpass had been proposed between the Regional Transport Authority office and New Adarsh Nagar Colony, and the level-crossing located near the Air Force Station would be closed.
It has been proposed to increase the width of the underpass between Basaveshwara Chowk and Bhoomgoondeshwara Chowk from 7.5 m to 15 m.
Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta said that the proposal was submitted to South Central Railway authorities about six months ago. The railway authorities had raised certain technical objections which were sorted out. But, the proposal was yet to be cleared, he said.
“If the proposal is cleared and the underpasses are constructed, traffic problems in the city can be solved,” he said.
