First Additional District and Sessions judge B. Shivalinge Gouda has said there will be fewer juvenile delinquencies if children are given a proper upbringing.

He was inaugurating a legal literacy programme on ‘Juvenile delinquency and rights of the child' organised by GK Law College, the Taluk Legal Services Committee and the Department of Information here on Thursday.

Expressing concern over the dwindling values in society, Mr. Gouda said, “A good nation is one where there are few laws. If parents look after children properly, there will be no need for the statement of rights to be made available to children.”

Lack of education, poverty and exploitation were reasons for delinquency, he said.

President of the Hubli Bar Association V.B. Nadagaddi and Principal Civil Judge (Senior Division) B.S. Bhagyarathna were present.
