MANGALORE: Not all plastics are hazardous. Instead of calling for a ban on all kinds of plastics, which is highly impracticable, attention must be paid to promote reuse and recycling of plastic, K. Srinivasan, professor, National Institute of Technology-Karnataka, Surathkal, said on Tuesday.
Delivering a lecture on "Plastic myth and reality" organised by the Institution of Engineers, he said alternatives to plastic were also not eco-friendly products.
Mr. Srinivasan said that those who called for a ban on plastic must also consider the practical benefits of the material. Plastics were being used in all spheres of life. A ban on the material would have serious economic implications, he added.
