Thousands witness the colourful Sharana Samskruti Utsav

As part of the Sharana Samskruti Utsav organised by the Murugarajendra Math here, a procession of folk arts was taken out on Monday under the leadership of Shivamurthy Muruga Sharana. The eight-day Utsav began on October 8, with thousands of people taking part in the daily events.

The procession was inaugurated by Jayadeva Swami of the Halswamy Viraktamath of Chennagiri. More than 10,000 people from across the State took part in the procession that passed through B.D. Road, Rajanahalli Hanumantappa Ginning Factory, Santepeth Circle, Mysore Bank Circle, Basavamantap Road, Rangaiah Bagilu, Doddapeth and culminated at the historical fort here.

The tableaux included awareness message on pulse polio programme, emergency services and welfare programmes. A major attraction of the procession was a flower shower on Dr. Sharan from a helicopter by followers, headed by D.V. Sharanappa, president of Basaveshwar Cooperative Bank.

P.R. Veerabhadranayaka, C.P. Rajanna, B.S. Madakarinayaka and P. Kiran Kumar, descendents of Chitradurga Palegars’ dynasty, offered prayers to Shivamurthy Muruga Sharana at the ancient Muruga Math on the historical hilltop fort premises.
