‘Consumers facing problems owing to incomplete implementation of the project’

Vedike asks Government to solve power supply problems in Raichur city

Raichur: The district unit of the Karnataka Rajya Vidyut Grahakara Vedike has demanded the Government to order an investigation into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Project (APDRP) in Raichur city and take action to set right power supply problems in the city.

In a statement here on Tuesday, S. Rajashekar, president of the Hyderabad Karnataka unit of the vedike, said that the Government had released Rs. 13 crore to the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) to implement the APDRP in the city two years ago. Subsequently, the project had been implemented by the L&T Company.

However, the there were irregularities in the implementation of the project. The company failed to complete the project according to the contract awarded to it, he charged. However, the GESCOM had cleared bills worth Rs. 9 crore of the company without verifying the quality of work it carried out.

He said that consumers in many parts of the city had been facing power supply problems owing to incomplete implementation of the project. But so far no action had been taken by the GESCOM to complete the left over work on the project, he said.

Complaints

The vedike had lodged several complaints with the GESCOM urging it to order an investigation into the alleged irregularities. But no action had been taken in this regard, he said.

On GESCOM’s action of shifting electricity meters outside the premises of consumers, he said that the GESCOM had cheated its consumers by shifting the meters outside their premises even though it knew that shifting meters was against law.

Mr. Rajashekar also opposed the proposed hike in power tariff.

The vedike would organise State-wide agitations if the Government allowed hike in power tariff, he said.
