Priyanka Kalagi of Karnatak Arts and Commerce College, Dharwad, won a gold medal in the women’s 200m run at the 62nd Karnatak University intercollegiate athletics meet here on Wednesday.
Ms. Kalagi clocked 25.46 seconds to beat her own previous record of 25.48 seconds set at the same athletic meet last year. Surekha Patil (JSS College, Dharwad) and Srimati S. Gowda (Government First Grade College, Kumta) bagged the silver and bronze medal, respectively.
In the men’s 200m run, Banaji Raju of Kadasiddeshwar College, Hubli, clocked 23.13 seconds. Ganesh Naik (JSS, Dharwad) and Ruzario Novel Sales (Mahasatee College, Ulga, UK) finished second and third, respectively.
The other outstanding performance of the day came from Savitrybai Eligar of JTVP’s Basaveshwar Arts and Commerce College, Gadag, who won the shot put and disc throw competitions.
JSS College’s Krishnappa Shanti won the men’s 5,000m run, while Gangubai Megani won the gold medal in the women’s 5,000m run.
JSS College won two gold medals with Channabasappa Jalihal coming first in the men’s 800m run and Surekha Patil emerging at the top in the women’s long jump.
Other winners in the men’s category are Yallappa M.V. (disc throw), Sampat M. Bangadi (long jump) and Vinay D.N. (shot put), and the winners in the women’s category are Shruti Shiraguppa (100m hurdles), Shruti Devashetti (800m run) and Shanti Gowda (high jump).
