DAVANGERE: H.J. Thembad, Regional Transport Officer, Davangere district, has instructed parents not to send their children to school in private vans and tempos.
In a statement here on Thursday, he said it had come to his notice that vans fitted with LPG cylinders were being used to transport children to and from school.
He said he had information that a number of children were carried in these vehicles.
Private vans and tempos were not permitted to transport children and if some thing went wrong, it would not be covered under insurance, he added.
The Regional Transport Office would take up a drive against those transporting children in unauthorised vehicles and against autorickshaw drivers carrying more than six children, he said. School buses must be painted yellow colour and there should be a name board stating, "school bus" on all sides of the vehicle.
All school buses must possess a fitness certificate from the Regional Transport Office, he said.
