The don, Ravi Poojary, who is operating from abroad, continues to issue threats to businessmen in the city, according to the police.

Kiran Pinto, manager of J.P. Lights in Chickpet, has been threatened and has been asked to pay a ransom of Rs. 5 crore, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S.N. Sidramappa. Mr. Sidramappa said that Mr. Pinto, who stays in Siddapura, has lodged a complaint saying that he had been receiving calls from Ravi Poojary since Saturday.

“He has used the Internet phone facility and has called Pinto on the latter's mobile phone.

“The calls were made on Saturday and Sunday,” Mr. Sidramappa said.

Mr. Pinto, a native of Manglore, was working in Dubai before joining J.P. Lights.

Poojary is said to have told Mr. Pinto about the latter possessing assets worth Rs. 500 crore and asked him to pay Rs. 5 crore.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar said Mr. Pinto is not a person capable of paying such a high amount.

“Poojary has become desperate and is calling people at random,” he said. The police have knowledge of those executing Poojary's threats in the city and a search is on to find them, he said.

Mr. Pinto's complaint is registered at the Chickpet police station.

The city police have so far arrested 30 persons, allegedly associated with Poojary, in connection with complaints of extortion.
