GULBARGA: Vice-president of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society B.G. Patil, who is contesting for the post of president of the society, has said his first priority will be to bring in financial discipline and accountability in the society.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, along with the other candidates contesting for the post of vice-president and Governing Council members, Mr. Patil said that at present there was no accountability or transparency in the financial dealings of the society.

He said that he would also make efforts to restore the primacy of the Governing Council in taking all decisions, including admission to professional colleges, and end the domination of the president in taking decisions.

Mr. Patil also said that he would strive for getting deemed varsity status to both Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College and Poojya Doddappa Appa College of Engineering. Besides this, Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital would be converted to a super-speciality hospital with treatment facilities for all major ailments.

State-of-the-art equipment would be installed, he added.

He said that the membership to the society, which had remained frozen for several years, would be opened and one person suggested by existing members would be made a new member. Opening membership to the general public would also be considered.
