D.V. Halabhavi birth centenary celebrations inaugurated
HUBLI: Vice-Chancellor of Hampi Kannada University A. Murigeppa has said that preserving and promoting the traditional styles of painting will be a befitting tribute to great artists such as D.V. Halabhavi.
He was inaugurating the D.V. Halabhavi birth centenary celebrations organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture here on Friday.
Language was no barrier for the development and art, which was proved in the case of Halabhavi, who was able to hold his exhibition of paintings in foreign countries, including Sri Lanka, Dr. Murigeppa said.
Releasing a booklet brought out on the occasion, veteran poet Channaveer Kanavi said that Halabhavi was a driving force in the development of art in the region.
Dr. Kanavi said that it was a matter of great pride that art had remained unaffected despite the adverse impact of globalisation and liberalisation.
Director of Kannada and Culture Manu Baligar said that honesty, dedication and merit would take a person to great heights.
President of the birth centenary celebrations committee Chandrakant Bellad inaugurated the art exhibition organised as part of the function. Secretary of Fine Arts Society Suresh Halabhavi and Principal of Halabhavi Art School Gayatri Desai spoke. Some artists were felicitated.
