Preparations are in full swing for the three-day 79th Kannada Sahitya Sammelan which will begin on February 8.

Mallikarjun Yendigeri, district president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, told The Hindu that the parishat was making all-out efforts to make it a success, as the sammelan was being held here after nine decades.

“The arrangements, which would have taken at least nine months to finish, will have to be completed in three months. Preparations are being made on a war-footing,” he said.

Mr. Yendigeri said the KSP had set up various committees, including the one to select books to be published during the event and to decide on the issues to be highlighted about the district. The process to set up 25 subcommittees would be over in a week.

Besides the Rs. 1 crore allocated in the State Budget, the parishat had sought another Rs. 2 crore from the government. “We are hopeful of getting more funds. District in-charge Minister S.K. Bellubbi and MLAs have promised to release more funds,” Mr. Yendigeri said. On the controversy over the design of the logo, he said the logo committee had been directed to bring out a modified version.
