Members of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha will stage an indefinite fast outside the office of the Chief Executive Officer of the Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat here from Monday, demanding payment of pending wages to workers who had taken up works in six zilla panchayat constituencies in Chincholi taluk t under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). Their wages have been pending since 2009-10.

Chincholi taluk secretary of the sangha Sharanabasappa Mamshetty said here on Saturday that Rs. 1.68 crore was due as wages and another Rs. 22.59 lakh was due as material component for executing 130 works in Hotebeeranalli, Ratkal, Halchera, Kodli, Miriyan and Venktapur constituencies in the taluk.

Mr. Mamshetty said that several petitions had been submitted to panchayat officials to clear the bills. “All these works had been approved by the gram panchayats and taluk panchayats concerned,” he said.

Mr. Mamshetty said that the authorities had inspected the spots where these works were taken up and certified that all them had been executed as per the design.

He said the estimates were prepared according to the design and approved. “Verification had also been done on whether MNREGA job card holders were involved in the execution of the works,” Mr. Mamshetty said. . The workers who had executed the works in Hodebeernalli zilla panchayat constituency were due to get Rs. 62.37 lakh as wages and another Rs 3.25 lakh as material component. Mr. Mamshetty said that workers involved in the execution of 34 works in Ratkal had not been paid wages of Rs. 29.59 lakh and material component of Rs. 9.91 lakh.

In the Halchera constituency, workers who executed 19 works had to get Rs. 6.32 lakh and Rs. 1.19 lakh as material component. In the Kodla constituency, workers who had executed six works have not been paid wages of Rs 13.35 lakh. In Miriyan and Venktapur, workers who executed 41 and 4 works respectively have not got Rs. 32.27 lakh and Rs. 2.42 lakh respectively.
