BELLARY: The former Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash submitted an application to Congress observers seeking party ticket to contest from Harpanahalli Assembly constituency in Davangere district here on Friday.

Mr. Prakash has chosen to contest from Harpanahalli as Hadagali, his home constituency, has been reserved for the Scheduled Castes after delimitation. Earlier, Harpanahalli, which borders Hadagali, was a reserved constituency.

It has now been made a general constituency.

“I have applied for ticket to contest from Harpanahalli. If the party permits, I will contest the elections. If not, I will work for its victory,” he told presspersons.

Mr. Prakash denied that his followers in the Janata Dal (Secular) were debating on whether to join the Congress party.

He said that over 90 per cent of them, including elected representatives, in various Panchayati Raj institutions, had already joined the party and expressed hope that others would follow suit.

When asked about the stand of the former Kurgodu MLA N. Suryanarayan Reddy, he said that the latter was likely to announce his decision this week.
